Make Your Bed

Today the title says it all… Make Your Bed!! That’s the way we are all supposed to start our day!!! (I’m just kidding, that’s a matter of opinion, start your day however you see fit)

This statement means so much more than just making our bed in the morning though. I’m a strong believer that however you start your day is how it will play out for the rest of it.The bed part, is just symbolic for the topic at hand.

Ever bump into someone and it can be like six in the morning but they’re all uptight, attitude on overdrive, and spreading unpleasant energy. Leaves you wondering what could be so wrong if the day has barely began.

I’m sure we all wonder, however it’s best just to steer clear of these people along our path. We never know what they might be dealing with internally (everyone is fighting their own battles).

But MOST of the time, they just simply had a bad start to their day. There are ways to begin the day with guarantees of it becoming a great entire day to follow.

A Bitter to Better Technique

1. Lay in bed the night before and like a movie, picture exactly how you would want your morning too play out.

  • What outfit will you wear, down to the shoes?

  • How will you style your hair?

  • What will you have for breakfast?

  • What source of transportation will you use?

  • How will you greet people who are looking or even staring at you (I smile, or say good morning, if they’re border line rude and staring then I wink at them, heck why not J)

Point is to make the start to your day as premeditated as possible, that way when you wake up you don’t feel frazzled.

You'll know exactly what direction you’re going in down to the socks. (it also plays into the power of visualization and is a great state of mind to fall asleep in)

2. If you have to be up at a certain time then set the alarm for at least a half hour before the actual time you’re supposed to get up.

  • I’m a snoozer so I set up 10 minute intervals with my alarm clock, that way by the third snooze I’m ready to get up on my own. I don’t feel rushed or forced out of bed.

  • If you’re not a snoozer, then you can lay for a bit gather your thoughts, maybe make coffee…etc.

Point is to set a good tone from the start.

3. Play some music!

  • Yes, I wrote music, this was like a ritual for me.

Early in the morning before work I would blast Beyonce “Standing On The Sun”

It really set the tone of the day for me regardless of how I woke up. Something about the song made me feel like I could conquer the world.

I would leave the house feeling amazing and more times than not had an amazing day to match my mood.

Find your own conquer the world song and hear it in the morning!

4. Affirmations, Affirmations, Affirmations!!!

  • Tell yourself how wonderful your day will be and why

  • Speak on how grateful you are to have woken up

Last but not least for my little technique…it wouldn’t hurt to make your bed (wink)

5. Clean up after yourself before leaving the house

  • Nothing is more unpleasant than a hard day’s work, to go home and work some more

  • Subconsciously looking at your area in a frenzy can mess up your vibe before leaving the house in the morning

  • Plus all day you’ll be please to know you are heading home to an orderly place, what better to smile about in the morning.

Until Next Time

Just like any other habit, in order to start on the path of it becoming a default action, we must practice and do it constantly.

I work full time, morning shift, and have a one year old daughter. My morning habits consist of getting her and myself ready, not easy and often frustrating. A lot of it I do the night before, and I still follow every step mentioned above the morning of. It’s working for me and I hope it helps you out. Thanks for stopping.
